April 27, 1941 – June 6, 2020
Wendy Pecora (nee Hunter), a well-loved and active member of the community, passed away suddenly on June 6, 2020. She came to Golden 60 years ago from Salmon Arm, to start a teaching career in Parson and then continuing in Golden.
After starting a family and becoming a full-time mother, she opened The Hobby House, which she operated for nearly 20 years, and where she also taught ceramics.
Wendy was an active community volunteer. Along with many other activities, she participated in and organized events for the Sacred Heart Parish, including teaching catechism; she played the trombone in the Purcell Mountain Orchestra; and was a long serving board member of the Golden Family Centre.
She was a long-time member of the Golden Lions Club, holding a variety of executive roles, and organizing numerous Club activities. She received several awards, including the prestigious Melvin Jones Lions International Award recognizing her service to the Lions and her community.
Wendy was very skilled and creative enjoying many crafts, always trying different artistic endeavours, and after attempting to teach her children, realized great joy in the success she found with teaching her grandchildren.
She was a whiz at Sudoku, and also loved gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing and baking with her grandchildren.
Wendy is survived by her husband Orlando of 58 years. Her children; Talea (Scottie), Michael (Linda), and Thyra (Kristof); her grandchildren; Sierra, Vincent, Clare and Adam. She is also survived by her siblings Jane (Eric), Dick (Brenda), Ed (Lois), Ron (Sue), and many nieces and nephews. Wendy was predeceased by her parents William and Ursula Hunter.
She was kind, generous, and selfless, never wanting to be the centre of attention so it is fitting that she was remembered at a private service, held at Sacred Heart Parish on Friday, June 12, 2020, followed by a Christian burial, officiated by Father Joseph Kizhakethottathil, MST. But we will gather for a celebration of her life at a later date.
The family appreciate all the support we have received. Donations to the Golden Lions Club can be made in Wendy’s memory at the Golden CIBC.
Messages of sympathy may be sent to Wendy’s family by viewing her obituary at: www.hindmanbowersfuneralhome.com.
Arrangements were in the care of Hindman Bowers Funeral Home, Golden.
