Barbara Winifred (Worrall) Asquin passed away peacefully at Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, BC on Tuesday, April 2, 2008, at the age of 81 years.
Barbara was born in Middlewich, Cheshire, England on April 30, 1926 and emigrated to Calgary, AB in 1948. She married Marcel in 1954. Barbara studied batik through adult education in Calgary and in Vancouver. Through Embroidery Canada, she completed courses and attended several conferences on fabric embellishment. Barbara and Marcel retired to Salmon Arm in 1986 and became very involved in the local arts community. Barbara exhibited and received both Juror’s Choice and People’s Choice awards. She took part in the Artists in the Schools program sponsored by the Shuswap Festival of the Arts. Barbara will be remembered for her kindness towards others and her volunteer spirit. She loved gardening, and the natural world around her.
Max and Merrygold, her beloved cats, will miss her.
Barbara was predeceased by Marcel, in 2004. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cynthia (Bill) Asquin-Richards of Calgary, David (Louise) Asquin of Edmonton and Donald (Carolyn Leckie) Asquin of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Alex, Callum, Anthony, Nicholas, Hailey and Mairin.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm on Thursday, April 10th at 3:00 pm. with Capreece Bowers officiating. Following the service a reception will be held at the Salmon Arm Art Gallery.
