Wynne Gilchrist, age 93, passed away peacefully in the early hours of May 21, 2009 at home in Squamish, BC with her son Thomas and daughter-in-law Deborah at her side. Wynne was the first child born in Eagle Bay, BC, on September 12, 1915 to pioneer parents John and Anna Whitehead. After helping to raise her many brothers and sisters, Wynne spent much of her life in Vancouver, with a period in British Guyana. Wynne will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving son Thomas (Deborah) of Squamish, daughter Phae Sutton of Salmon Arm, sisters Mary (Frances) Turgeon of Eagle Bay, Barbara Harper of Langley, brother George (Elaine) of Victoria, Randall (Christine) Grey, Tianna Grey, and dear long-time friend Pat Rivers, all of Courtenay, and close relatives Bonnie (Jim) Jefferies of Eagle Bay and Janet (Lorenz) Fish of New York City. Wynne leaves behind grandchildren Greg,

Mike, Scott, and Joanne, and great-grandchild Jonathan, as well as an extended family of nephews and nieces. She also leaves her Squamish friends, Carla and Vi. Wynne’s ashes will be cast by family into the waters of Howe Sound at Mariner’s Rest, where the remains of her predeceased loving husband Captain Thomas (Chris) Gilchrist lay.
