Passed away peacefully at Pleasant Valley Manor, Armstrong BC on September 18, 2010. Predeceased by her husband Tom, Yvonne is remembered with love by her three sons and their families; Bill (Inge) of Kitimat, David (Vicky) of Salmon Arm, Ian (Cathy) of Prince George; her grandchildren Kirsten, Kevin, Corrine, Clint, Tom, Steen, Diana; and her great-grandchildren Colton, Madisen, Derek, Justin, Tyson, and Kyle. Also left behind are her brother Mike (Jean), sister Betty, many nieces and nephews and good friends. Yvonne was born in Fulham, London, England August 26, 1923. She married Tom Hickman in 1940 and arrived in Canada (Winnipeg) as a war bride in 1944, and moved to Kitimat in 1954. While raising a family in Kitimat, Yvonne started with BC Telephone Co. as a telephone operator. She became Chief Operator in Terrace, BC and later Manager of Northern Telephone Operators in Prince George BC and was named a member of the Telephone Pioneers of BC. She retired to Kaslo, BC with Tom and later moved to Salmon Arm to live with David and Vicky in Deep Creek. She loved to travel with friends and family. She hiked the coasts of the Queen Charlotte Islands. Her trips included visits to New York, Cuba, Hawaii, Mexico, Portugal, Spain and Turkey. After retiring from BC Telephone Co. she took all her grandchildren on a trip to Disneyland. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to do so, may contribute to the charity of their choice. Memorial service was held at St. George’s Church, Enderby, BC on Saturday the 25th of September at 1:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via email: armstrong@pafs.net.
