Bears pose a threat, relocate them

letter from a concerned resident in response to bear sightings on Okanagan Ave.

What kind of ridiculous advice is this, “leave the bears alone?”

My young nephews play in the park on that street. My sister walks her 18-month-old to sleep on that street.

And your best advice is “leave the bears alone?”

As if I would be tempted to go and play with them?

Put a leash on them and walk them around my yard?

You don’t think that a momma bear with two cubs would attack anyone it saw in the vicinity?

I don’t understand why Fish and Wildlife won’t capture them and re-locate them so that the residents of that street aren’t constantly afraid to let their dogs and kids out.

This is really poor reporting. As as advocate for all things Salmon Arm, the paper should be calling provincial resources and insisting on the re-location of those bears instead of blaming the residents of Salmon Arm for what will inevitably be a disastrous situation.
