Defence of Suzuki applauded

First, hats off to Warren Bell for his admonition of Tom Fletcher and Patrick Moore and his defence of Davids Suzuki and Schindler.

First, hats off to Warren Bell for his admonition of Tom Fletcher and Patrick Moore and his defence of Davids Suzuki and Schindler (Opinion, April 25). Moore, along with Greenpeace (an oxymoron if I ever I saw one), and now Fletcher have done a huge disservice to efforts to assist the planet in becoming a more enviro-friendly place to exist, while Dr. Suzuki in his quiet impressive manner has brought awareness of the issues emphatically without hysteria, nor by endorsing violent activity, to the mind of every thinking individual, man, woman or child, who has the ability and desire to live a healthier and more productive life on a more human friendly earth.

Second, Jeff Nagel in his item, “Teachers halt after-school activities” in the same issue, quotes Susan Lambert, president of the militant BCTF union as saying, “....will mean the loss of some highly valued activities........ But we have to look at the bigger picture and the longer term.”

The biggest picture that I have ever seen painted by the BCTF does not include a single student! Is education and all the issues concerning it not about the growth and development of our children in the “longer term?” That’s like the College of Physicians or the nurses’ union saying, “....we’re halting (what we think is unessential) health care which will mean the death of some patients but we must look at the bigger picture...” Sheeeeesh!
