I would like to begin by congratulating the winners in the election. Mr. Harrison who won the mayor’s office, and the six candidates who won the council seats.

I would next like to offer my condolences to Jim Kimmerly, Chris Meikle and Mary Louise McCausland of @Prosperity4SalmonArm. You ran on an honourable platform seeking to advance the well-being of Salmon Arm’s residents. I also wish to acknowledge Kevin Babcock and his commitment to planning for the future of our community.

To the voters of Salmon Arm, I do not care that I was the bottom candidate. What worries me about the results of this election is that so few of you voted for a change in governance.

The previous councils have clearly favoured the well-being of the prosperous members of our community over those most in need. You have voted to continue that course, much to my regret.

There were six candidates who were clearly aligned with the values this town claims to espouse; one was elected.

I only ever intended to run in the one election. I will, however, remain active in our community, advocating on behalf of those unable to advocate for their own well-being. It is my hope that those on council will listen to the ideas proposed by the rest of us and make this the community we claim to be.
