LETTER: Things not-so rosy under Liberals

Our BC Liberals are constantly telling us what a great job of looking after provincial affairs they are doing. And they were spending our tax dollars to do so.

Our BC Liberals are constantly telling us what a great job of looking after provincial affairs they are doing. And they were spending our tax dollars to do so.

So, why does B.C. have such a high child poverty rate, low minimum wages and inadequate welfare and disability rates? For years the ministry of child welfare, hospitals and schools have been underfunded. Hospitals and schools are not exempt carbon tax so cuts have to be made somewhere in their budgets to pay the tax. And taxpayers pay carbon tax twice, for our own use and for the needs of hospitals and schools. It seems to me these government policies take money from the poor to give to the well off.

School boards have to balance their budgets and have had to make difficult decisions to do so. It was interesting to me when parents in some districts threatened to revolt over proposed closures, the government suddenly found some extra money to keep them open.

Billions of our tax dollars were spent fighting the BCTF over classroom sizes and composition, and an entire generation of school children suffered from program cuts and stressed teachers. Our once excellent education system has slipped to a 10th rating.

Then we have Christy Clark’s determination to continue with the Site C hydro dam. She talks about these high paying jobs when the experts say the dam is not needed. The jobs would be gone when the construction is finished and the land, now flooded, will never produce food for our province.
