Peer investigation appropriate

Regarding the editorial, “Police shouldn’t investigate their own,” in the April 13 edition of the Observer.

Who investigates complaints about doctors? Their own peers.

Who investigates complaints about teachers? Their own peers. Who investigates complaints about lawyers? Their own peers.

Who investigates complaints against accountants? Their own peers. Who investigates complaints against realtors? Their own peers.

So, why is it such an anomaly that complaints against a police officer are investigated by their peers – the people who know what happens out on the street better than anyone?
