The biggest concern I have about Sturgis North is the implication of appropriating the name and history of a town in South Dakota. Is this really how Salmon Arm wants to be known… as a town that globbed onto the fame of another town and that town’s event?
It seems likely that’s what will occur if Salmon Arm allows a private party to use the name Sturgis for personal gain.
It might have been possible for this private party to trademark the name Sturgis in Canada, but I doubt this trademark and use was approved by the town of Sturgis and the motorcycle rally at Sturgis. Shoot for home-grown events that work off the history and environment of Salmon Arm.
This is a beautiful place that doesn’t need the kind of desperate financial grab of appropriating.
