Sturgis site on under-used farmland

If retired farmer John McLeod and the Salmon Arm Farmers Institute don’t wish the Moore property to be used to accommodate a portion of the Sturgis North event, then they should stop whining about it in the newspapers and coffee mags, and convince the Moores to cultivate the property and plant a wholesome cash crop for the betterment of mankind instead.

Sounds pretty simple to me. I would think that the owners of the land would have the say as to how their acreage, sorry hectarage, ought to be developed.

There is so much misinformation bouncing around regarding the model for the occasion, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD, it makes me sick. It is not a dark, dangerous crime-filled Babylon for shady biker gangs and their loose women. It is a happy, fun-filled, family event with parades and good music and exhibits and food and, okay, some fermented drink, but under control, and Sturgis North will be the same with proper planning &and management. The fact that a modicum of offences may occur has nothing to do with the theme of the occasion, but rather with the fact that wherever there is a congregation of a half million people a small percentage of offensive activity will occur. It happens at Roots & Blues and other gatherings which seem to be acceptable in the Shuswap.

And don’t forget, the South Dakota happening generated $820 million in revenue for the constituents of the state last August, and raised over $300,000 for children’s hospitals and other charities besides.

Think doom and gloom and it’ll occur. Think positively and something good will come of it.
