Support for police lacking

In the Friday, Oct. 28, Shuswap Market News we are told of an incident where an RCMP officer was assaulted and left on the road by two thugs who later pled guilty to assault on the officer.

The newspaper goes on to elaborate regarding a previous incident involving Constable Koester which had nothing to do with this story. The RCMP officer had been cleared of any wrong doings in the previous incident, however the media felt it must be included?

I would ask, what has a previous incident to do with this assault against the constable where he was was left on the road?

Why did the media feel it was necessary to include the officer’s previous experiences in this un-related case?

Is the newspaper trying to gain sympathy for these criminals when they should be doing everything to support and protect our police.

The police are the good guys. Criminals are not deserving of sympathy or support from a community newspaper in a case such as this.

Our justice system favors the criminal as it is and we do not need a newspaper to support criminals.

In any case, if Crown Council attempts to bring an accused previous record into a trial the defense lawyer would have objected and this would not have been allowed by a judge.

Why are we continually trying to blame our police when they will lay their life on the line to protect any of us if a situation warrants it?

It is my opinion this newspaper should be ashamed and apologize to the RCMP officer for their reporting of the story which appeared in the Oct. 28 paper.

God bless all those who are sworn to serve and protect us.
