The battle between Kelowna and Kamloops will resume at the University women’s basketball level later this week.

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack and the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat will close out the 2013-14 Canada West regular season with a home-and-home series. The two teams were going to duke it out Thursday in Kelowna before heading to the TRU gym in Kamloops for a Saturday, Feb. 15 high noon showdown.

The WolfPack have secured a playoff spot with and an 11 and 9 record. The Heat will miss the playoffs with a 3 and 17 mark and have lost their last seven outings.

TRU head coach Scott Reeves said prior to Thursday’s game that he was looking to build off a split last weekend  (Feb 7-8) in Victoria.

“We had a great bounce back on the road last week and hope to keep that effort going...”

Reeves said having a day off in between the games could work to his team’s advantage when it comes to preparing for the back half of the series. Despite their record, Reeves has respect for the UBCO program.

“They work extremely hard and are going to be very physical on the perimeter. They have guards that can force you into mistakes so we will need to take care of the ball.”

The WolfPack have had an all-star type season from fourth-year guard Jorri Duxbury of Salmon Arm.  She is fifth in assists (3.9 per game), fifth in minutes played (35.2), seventh in steals (2.5 per game), eighth in blocked shots (1.4 per game), 12th in assist/turnover ratio (0.9), 10th in scoring (14.5 points per game and 15th in three-point goals made –1.4 per game).
