Breaking team records at provincial swim meet

Shuswap Swimming Team sees two swimmers advance to finals at AAA Short Course Provincial Championships.

Returning with personal successes to share from the AAA Short Course Provincial Championships, the Shuswap Swimming Team broke five team records and saw two swimmers advance to the finals at one of the most challenging meets of the season.

Held in Surrey March 1-4, more than 600 swimmers competed at the event.

• 13-year-old girls – Skyla Eberle earned 8th place in the finals of the 50-metre freestyle.

• 14-year-old girls – Bree Cooper finished 9th in the 50-m freestyle, 100-m butterfly, and broke team records in the 100-m breaststroke and 200-m butterfly.

• 12-year-old boys – Ethan Quilty took 5th place in the 100-m backstroke and added two more team records to his credit, breaking the 200-m freestyle and 200-m breaststroke records.

• 16- to 18-year-old boys – Jake Kitchen finished 18th in the 200-m backstroke at his first trip to the championships.
