Chase Heat split a pair with Wranglers

This past weekend’s hockey schedule saw the Chase Heat take on the new franchise 100 Mile House Wranglers in home-and-home games.

On Friday the 20th the Wranglers were visitors at Art Holding Memorial Arena.  Not too sure what the lesson taught was, but at the end 100 Mile walked away with a 3 – 0 victory.  Two hundred and 50  fans left the building deeply disappointed.

Kristian Stead stopped all 24 shots he faced and teammate Connor Sloan potted two goals.  Not possible to find a highlight on the Chase Heat side.

Then came Saturday night in 100 Mile House at the season home opener for the Wranglers. The two teams swapped the frustration of the previous evening as the Heat took a 5 – 1 victory back home to the Shuswap.  The building was rocking at the start with 493 fans  who were silenced by the middle of the second. The spoilers of the coming-out party were led by Jake Mattes in goal who stopped 27 of 28 shots.  Local lad Cody Hodges had two goals and an assist, Kurtis Johnson had three assists, Cody Koskimaki had a goal and two assists, Kaleb Boyle and McKenzie Guardiero both had a goal and an assist.  On the back end both Wes Matsuda and Alex Durbeniuk had outstanding games.

The Heat travel to the East Kootenay next weekend for a trio of games versus tough opposition.  On Oct 6 they are back in Chase to take on the Creston Valley Thundercats.
