Tough contest Salmon Arm Bruins’ forwards Cody Stepura and Lenny DePatie take out the puck carrier during the Bruins’ 4-2 loss to Kamloops in the Bantam Rec Hockey Tournament over the weekend at the Shaw Centre.

The Salmon Arm Atom Titans competed in the Valley Championships over the weekend after placing second in the North Okanagan Superleague.
It was tough start against the Lillooet team who had an undefeated season and went on to win the championships.
The teams were tied after the first period but Lillooet was just too talented and went on to a 6-1 win.
Next up was Lumby. After the Salmon Arm Titans loss to Lumby in the Superleague A finals, the boys were fired up for a win. The Titans came out flying, opening up a 1-0 early lead. They were controlling the play throughout the first frame, but eventually Lumby scored on a well-placed shot, one of the few they had in the period. This was the case for most of the game but Lumby still managed a 3-1 victory.  The Lumby netminder deserved full credit for the win as he was outstanding.
Last up was the South Okanagan champs from Penticton. Again the Titans were controlling the game early and went up 1-0. Penticton came back with three unanswered goals, but the boys were determined and scored twice in the last five minutes of the game to tie it up.
Five minutes of 4-on-4 overtime solved nothing, so the game went on to a shootout where all three of Salmon Arm’s shooters scored.
Goalie Ben Bannister made a great save on Penticton’s last shooter to lift the Titans to the victory. It was a great way to end a great season.
