Female Midget Rep hockey team takes top honours

Salmon Arm wins first game in best-of-three series versus Kelowna. Next game on March 3 in Kelowna.

The Salmon Arm Midget Tier 1 Female Team was presented with the OMAHA banner on Feb. 19 for winning the league this season.

Kelowna and Kamloops played each other in the first round of playoffs, with Kelowna defeating Kamloops two straight in a best-of-three series. In the first game of round two of playoffs against Kelowna, Salmon Arm beat them Feb.19 in a close game.

Salmon Arm opened the scoring at 6:06 of the second period with a goal from Hailey Silcocks, with assists going to Taylor Lund and Jenna Lazar. Salmon Arm scored again to make it 2-0 at 2:35 of the second with Lisa Campeau scoring and Taylor Lund and Jenna Lazar assisting again.  Salmon Arm’s third goal of the game came at 16:52 of the third period, from Taylor Lund and an assist coming from Jenna Lazar. Kelowna got their first goal of the game at 6:31 of the third to make the game 3-1. Kelowna scored another at 3:10 of the third period to make it 3-2. Salmon Arm was able to take away any further scoring chances and win the game 3-2.

Game 2 of the series with be played in Kelowna on March 3. If a game three is needed it will be played in Salmon Arm on March 4.

There will be no games next weekend as Hailey Haskell, Jenna Lazar and Ali Roine will be heading off to represent Team Okanagan at the BC Winter Games in Vernon. Sarah Botter will be also attending as a referee for female hockey.
