The Thompson Okanagan Female Midget AAA Rockets now know their semifinal opponents will be the Prince George Cougars. The Rockets, who finished the league in first place, received a bye through the first round of playoffs. Even though the season record between the Rockets and the Cougars was six wins, one loss, the Rockets are not taking their opponent lightly. All games are being played at Rutland West Arena in Kelowna.

Heartbreak

It was a heartbreaker – Vernon scored 49 seconds into overtime as the Vernon Hawks clipped the Salmon Arm Subway Lakers 6-5 in the North Okanagan Atom Super Hockey League playoff title last Monday night in Sicamous.

The Lakers opened the scoring just nine seconds into the championship game, making it 2-0 a few minutes later. The Hawks went hard on the puck, stuffing in their first goal.

Vernon then equalized before the Lakers went up 3-2 with 29 seconds left in the first period. Salmon Arm moved in front 4-2, but the Hawks kept battling.

The Hawks’ power line jammed in two more goals and the teams were deadlocked 4-4 after two periods.

The Lakers gained a 5-4 lead and, with four minutes left in the game, the Hawks crashed the net to tie it up.
