Under near perfect conditions for softball, the Salmon Arm Slo-Pich League spring season wrapped up on Sunday with the playoff tournament at Mosquito Park in Canoe.
“The weather co-operated on Sunday, and after all the rain the previous two days the city did a great job keeping the fields in good shape,” said Al Boucher, commissioner of the league.
Throughout the day, 14 teams battled in 20 games for bragging rights. In the A division the top two teams in the league throughout the regular season, the Jays and the Rebels, faced off in the heavy weight game.
Active bats from both sides provided fans with an exciting game, but ultimately the Jays were able to tighten up on defence and claim victory over their toughest rivals.
Claiming third place in the A division was Crushed It, who had finished in fifth place in the regular season.
In the B division final, the Rag Tags defeated the Blue Balls, while the Brew Crew took claim to third place. The double elimination style tournament guaranteed teams at least three games each. The ball diamonds at Mosquito Park won’t be empty for long as the more competitive summer league will begin on July 26 and run through until October.
The summer league plays games to seven innings instead of six and features three outs instead of the spring league’s 10-batter rule.
