Participating in the fourth Annual Walk/Run for Charity is a great way to support your personal fitness goals and help the Shuswap Trail Alliance in the process.
Sponsored by Shuswap Lady Striders, this event is a fun, family oriented race featuring distances for everyone; 1.5-kilometre, 5-km, and 10-km. Water stations will be located at three points along the route.
Men and women, teenagers and children are welcome to take part.
Race day isn’t until Sunday, May 27, so you have lots of time to start your training for this fun event.
While training on your own works, training with friends or with an organized running clinic can help keep you motivated.
And watch the Salmon Arm Observer for weekly training tips.
This event is a fund- raiser for the Shuswap Trail Alliance and to that end, there are many incentive prizes for collection of pledges, ranging from technical T-shirts to a child’s mountain bike.
The Shuswap Trail Alliance looks after building and maintaining hiking and biking trails locally so that residents and visitors can enjoy a healthy lifestyle on friendly and safe trails.
The emphasis of the event is on participation, enjoying a fun-filled morning with friends and family.
The day begins with registration and bib pick-up at 8 a.m., followed by a fun and invigorating warm-up at 8:45. The race starts at 9 a.m. sharp.
Immediately following the race, there will be refreshments and loads of draw prizes, along with recognition for individual age-related performance.
Registration/pledge forms are available at Cool Running Walking & Fitness at 40 Lakeshore Drive NE.
Entry fees are $10 for adults, $5 for participants 7 to 15 years of age and free for children under six.
The Fourth Annual Walk/Run for Charity begins and ends at Blackburn Park.
