Local wrestlers dominate podium in Kamloops

Salmon Arm wrestlers distinguished themselves at the Western Age Class Wrestling Tournament

Salmon Arm wrestlers distinguished themselves at the Western Age Class Wrestling Tournament which was held at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops on Jan. 21.

Approximately 250 wrestlers from across B.C. took part in the event, with nine wrestlers representing the Salmon Arm Wrestling team.

Of the nine wrestlers, five took a podium position in their weight classes: Eve Maxwell took a bronze medal in the 40-kg female class, Elijah Lazar took gold in the 41-kg male class, Matteo DeMarni won silver in 45-kg male, Rohan Kafle took first place in 54-kg male and Rubin LePoidvin won a silver medal in 66-kg male.

“All the wrestlers from Salmon Arm fought hard and were excellent ambassadors for our team and city,” said assistant coach Richard Sweet.

The Salmon Arm wrestlers will return to Kamloops for zone championships on Feb. 18.

Salmon Arm will play host to wrestling provincials from March 2 to 4.
