Midget Silvertips lose first in best-of-three series

Possible third game in Salmon Arm on Sunday

The Carri’s Restaurant Midget Silvertips took on Penticton in Midget Tier 2 semi final playoff action. 

The action was end to end with Penticton drawing first blood midway through the second.  

Salmon Arm tied it up on a goal from Justin Murray, assisted by Dylan Franson and Dallas Flockhart. 

The third period saw Penticton pull ahead of the ’Tips. Brandon Shirley tied it up, assisted by Nathan Grieve. The ’Tips got into penalty trouble and Penticton capitalized on a five-on-three, scoring two unanswered goals.  The final score, ’Tips 2 Penticton 4. 

The action moves to Penticton on Feb. 26 with Game 3 scheduled for 11:15 in the Spectator arena on Feb. 27. The winner will face Kamloops in the division finals.

Provincial playoffs will start March 20 as Salmon Arm hosts the Midget Tier 2 Championships. 

The provincial organization committee is still seeking corporate sponsorship to make the games a success.

 

Blades #1

On Feb. 19, the Silverblades beat the Vernon Bulldogs out of a tie by netting one with only 30 seconds left on the clock. The Silverblades were down by two goals but battled back with goals of their own. 

Donte Nowell latched one early in the second to get the ball rolling. He was assisted by Brandon Jalving. 

Donte put another one in with help from Jake Buffie. Kyle Clark found the net with help from Cameron McGergor. Steven  Luchkanych put two behind the Bulldogs goalie, adding to the final score. 

The team was down by two goals in the first before they got their second wind. 

The final score was Silverblades 5, Bulldogs 4. Once again Alex Sherwood was solid in net. 

On Feb. 20 Salmon Arm Peewee Blackburn Silverblades took on the N.O.K. Knights, winning 4-2. 

Once again Donte Nowell opened the scoring with help from Mikayla Stirling. His other goal was assisted by Clark. Ella Ross beat the goalie with an assist from Jacob Oberst

Oberst got one of his own assisted by Josh Niewenhuizen and Buffie. 

Next Saturday the peewee playoffs start – come cheer on the Silverblades. 

Yetis rock

Coach Brent Dodge and his Atom Yetis finished fifth place in the Okanagan Super League.

On Feb. 5, the Yetis played the Vernon K2 team  and lost 5-4.

Scoring for the Yetis were Cole Nisse with two, Matthew Campbell with one and Ben Bannister with one. Assists went to Jacob Tudan with two, Cole Stockbruegger with two and Jackson Fleming with one.

On Feb. 6, the Yetis played the Salmon Arm Grizzlies and won 6-0.

Scoring for the Yetis were Ryan Sadorsky with two, Riley Mueller with two, Stockbruegger with one and Fleming with one. Assists went to Riley Mueller, Chris Martin and Tudan.

On Feb. 19 the Yetis again played the Salmon Arm Grizzlies and won, in a nail bitter, 2-1.

Scoring for the Yetis were Matthew Campbell and Kris Main. Assists went to Owen Langtry and Martin.
