Two Salmon Arm athletes put themselves to the ultimate test over the weekend.

Once again Dietmar Penkert and Ray Warner took part in the Subaru Ironman in Penticton, with a grueling 3.8-kilometre swim, 180-km bike and a 42.2-km run.

Penkert came 403rd out of the 2,832 participants overall and 48th out of the 327 participants in his male 45-49 category.

Ray Warner, participating despite a sinus infection, placed 1223rd overall, placing 32nd out of 134 men in his 55-59 category.

 

Category placings

At the 29th Pushor Mitchell Apple Triathlon in Kelowna on Aug. 21 (1.5 -km swim, 10-km run and 40-km bike), Salmon Arm’s Jeremy Bray placed 24th out of 68 males in the 35-39 category, Phil McGrew was 20th out of 32 in 55-59 males, Sara Mitchell was 20th out of 32 in the 30-34 females, Merel Van Oeveren was 26th out of 36 in 25-29 females, and Merrilea Young was 18th out of 20 in 50-54 females.
