Outlaws best in province

The Shuswap Midget Outlaws more than measured up in a tournament which included many of the top B level teams in the province.

In Ridge Meadows this weekend, the Shuswap Midget Outlaws more than measured up in a tournament which included many of the top B level teams in the province.

In their first game Shuswap was sluggish but still managed to defeat the home team Burrards from Ridge Meadows 5-3. A 6-6 tie with the Coquitlam Adanacs and a 5-3 win over the Chilliwack Mustangs secured a place in the semi-finals for the Outlaws. Shuswap then went on to defeat the South Delta Islanders 10-5 to move on to the final Sunday afternoon.

In the final, the Outlaws came out strong, built an early lead and cruised to a 6-2 tournament victory.

Coaches Mike Berg and John Beevor-Potts were pleased with the team’s effort.

“We started the tournament a little flat but our offense got better with each game,” said Beevor-Potts. “The defense was terrific from beginning to end. The kids worked very hard.”

Shuswap goalies Robert Letcher and Calvin Davyduke were both recognized as game MVPs, as were Paul Beevor-Potts and Adam New. The team returns to the Okanagan for league play on May 26 against Revelstoke.
