The Yan’s Restaurant Peewee Tier 3 Silvertips played a pair of games last weekend, defeating the Revelstoke Grizzlies 11-2 on Saturday before dropping a 6-2 decision to North Okanagan on Sunday.

The ’Tips opened the scoring early in the first and never looked back on Saturday. Gord Squires tapped in a rebound after a scramble in front of the net.

Gage Parrell would roof it a few minutes later to give Salmon Arm a two-goal lead.

Trent Thiessen would rip one through the five-hole just three minutes later, and Squires would get his second on a point shot tip-in three minutes afterwards.

After the majority of the second period remained scoreless, Sean Freed would add to the ’Tip’s lead late in the frame, hammering in a rebound that popped out to the slot.

Less than a minute later, Thiessen would get his second, going five-hole.

Before the score keepers even had time to change the board, the ’Tips drew further away with a shot from Oscar Mayes, fooling the Grizzly’s netminder. The Silvertips weren’t done there - Caleb DeHoog rounded out the scoring in the second, his shot from the circle deflecting in off of a Revelstoke defender.

Defenceman Ty Slaney started the third period with a bang for Salmon Arm, a strong rush down the wing and a hard shot popping up over the Grizzly’s goaltender to end up in the back of the net.

After the ’Tips potted their tenth, Squires would complete the hat trick, tapping in a rebound to finish up the scoring for the Silvertips.

Revelstoke would add one late, but Salmon Arm still skated away with an 11-2 victory. The ’Tips didn’t fair well in Sunday’s match, which proved to be a physical, penalty-filled affair.

Defenceman Connor Levins would set up Sean Freed with a beautiful cross-crease feed on the power play to open the scoring for the ’Tips in the second period.

Squires would make things interesting with a low shot just inside the post, again on the power-play later in the frame.

Unfortunately for the ’Tips that would be as close as they’d come, falling by a final score of 6-2.

Natasha Kociuba earned the hardest worker award for the ’Tips, on the strength of her physicality and strong back-check.

The ’Tips might just get another crack at North Ok as they participate in their tournament in early January.
