Four athletes from Salmon Arm play with the Super Y League team of the Thompson Okanagan Football Club, including Brendan Melin, U16B; Dan Schager, U15B; Katy Harding, U15G; and Elenna Sweet, U16G.
The Thompson Okanagan Football Club (TOFC) dominated Mountain FC on June 11 and 12, with the U15 boys and girls and U16 boys coming out on top.
The TOFC U15 Girls emerged the victors June 11 with a dominating 4-0 win against Mountain FC, with Salmon Arm’s Harding chipping a pass to Kelowna’s Kennedy Snape for the fourth and final goal of the game.
Playing against the league’s first-ranked team, the TOFC U15 Boys proved themselves, beating the Abbottsford Mariners 6-1 on June 12.
Schager scored two goals, contributing to the win that moved the boys into second place in league standings.
In U16 Boys action, TOFC enjoyed a clean sweep, beating the Abbotsford Mariners 2-0 June 12. The clincher came in the second half from Salmon Arm’s Melin, whose long range free kick caused the keeper to misjudge the ball.
On June 18, TOFC U16 Girls edged by the Abbotsford Mariners 1-0.
Sarah Holden from Nakusp and Sweet from Salmon Arm created some great chances from their fullback positions with two balls off the cross bar.
Shuswap FC Selects
The U15 boys select team finished their season Saturday in an exciting, hard-fought game in Kamloops.
As regulation time ended, the Shuswap Selects were tied 1-1 with the Kamloops Blaze orange team.
During the ensuing two 10-minute overtime periods, the Selects continued to play good possession soccer and had several scoring chances. The win, however, went to Kamloops who managed to capitalize on a corner kick.
Kamloops played the league’s first-place Penticton Pinnacles Sunday, with Penticton victorious.
Coached by Dave Knight and assistant Ken Kantymir, the Shuswap Selects U15 players are: Westlee Bischoff, Eric Brock, Nick Chesney, Morgan Crandlemire, Quinton Fahlman, Micah Gunn, Nathan Hawe, Lachlan Hicks, Nate Kantymir, Adam Luchkanych, Jacob New, Kyle Nicholson, Max Scharf, Mitch Smith, Dylan Staal and Isaac Walton.
