Fifteen wrestlers with the Salmon Arm Secondary wrestling team will be heading to provincials in Penticton on Feb. 24 and 25 following the results of the Okanagan Zone Championships over the weekend. They were a resounding success.

Both the Salmon Arm Secondary girls’ and boys’ wrestling teams won the zone championships. Top finishers in their divisions were as follows:

For the girls, firsts were awarded, in their respective weight divisions, to: Courtney Larsen, Shay-Lynn Steiger and Liz Szoke.

Boys’ firsts went to: Jon Grant, Tahvo Simonson and Tyler Stammers.

Second place finishes in their divisions went to: Kennedy Gerlitz and Casey Scollon for the girls, and Jacob Ashton, Cody Janzen and Tristin Korol for the boys.

Third place finisher for the girls in her weight division was Natasha Harper.

“Everybody wrestled very well,” said coach Richard Sweet. “They’re a class act and a pleasure to bring to any school. It was just an all-around great team effort.”
