Salmon Arm’s Midget Tier 1 female hockey team knows exactly how it feels to go the distance, claiming the title of OMAHA playoff champions on Saturday.

The team, who also won the regular season, beat Kelowna in two consecutive games to take the best-of-three series, winning the final game 2-1.

Sarah Botter was the leader for the team; achieving both a goal and an assist in the game, Summer Jespersen put another in the net and Phoenix Lawrey had an assist.

Goalie, Kylie Assi, had a strong presence, keeping it 2-0 until the third when Kelowna scored its only goal of the game. Salmon Arm fought off 18 minutes worth of penalties, showing determination and a strong desire to take the win.

Next, the girls serve as hosts to the provincial championships taking place March 19-23 at the Shaw Centre.
