Salmon Arm's Sandra Jenkins rink suffers close loss

Former Olympian Sandra Jenkins is skipping a rink from the Salmon Arm Curling Club in the BC Senior Women's Championship in Kelowna.

The Salmon Arm Curling Club was well-represented at the Tim Horton’s BC Senior Women’s Curling Championship at the Kelowna Curling Club, Wednesday through Sunday.

Competing was former Olympian Sandra Jenkins, with third Kate Horne, second Wendy Cseke, lead Hetty Burt and fifth Sherry Heath.

At the end of the first two days of curling, the Jenkins rink had won four straight games and was sitting atop the standings. On Wednesday, Jenkins downed the Smiley rink 9-5 followed by Lepine, 6-2.

On Thursday, Jenkins defeated the Clark rink 9-7 in an extra end and the Wyatt rink 9-2 after seven ends.

Friday morning, Jenkins took their first loss, 10-5 to Shantz. That afternoon they came back to defeat Berry 11-7.

On Saturday, Jenkins blanked Bedard 13-0  in five ends, but then fell to Lepine 8-2.

In the Sunday final, Shantz defeated Lepine 10-9 in 10 ends.

Eight senior men’s and eight senior women’s teams were competing in the eight-team round-robin followed by a three-team playoff. Winners advance to the 2012 Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Abbotsford, March 17-25.
