Salmon Arm Secondary wrestling coach Ray Munsie is eager to lay out the mats for the start of an important season.

The reigning Thompson-Okanagan champions will kick off their season with their first practice next Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Jackson Campus.

Munsie says the wrestling team is the largest athletic program run by the school and is hopeful to increase the numbers this year.

“It would be wonderful to have 100 kids in the program,” said Munsie.

“We have a real champion culture in our program. We foster kids that are disciplined and strong citizens  with an amazing work ethic.”

In March 2017, Salmon Arm will host the B.C. provincial championships at the Shaw Centre. The tournament will see more than 430 of the province’s best come to town.

Since the program started eight years ago, Salmon Arm has crowned four provincial champions, three of which were girls.

“This year, at home we have the chance to have more than one champion, and I expect we will.”
