Seniors haul medals home from Games

The BC Seniors Games have come to a close with Salmon Arm residents bringing home their share of the glory

The BC Seniors Games have come to a close with Salmon Arm residents bringing home their share of the glory. Results are still preliminary, however, we have done our best to compile standings for local senior athletes from the BC Seniors Games website.

Swimming

Muriel Hurlbert earned gold in the 200 metre IM, the 800m freestyle, bronze in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 100m IM. Hurlbert also won a gold, along with Blind Bay teammate Linda MacPherson in the 4x25 freestyle and also in the 4x25 medley relay.

Linda Macpherson in the 75-79 group won six golds in all the events she participated in which were 400m free, 100m free, 50m free, 200m free, 25m free and the 25m backstroke.

Stephen Horton won a gold in the 800m freestyle and in the 50m backstroke, bronze in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle, and silver in the 200m freestyle. Horton was also part of relay teams that swam to silver in the mens 4x25m freestyle and bronze in the mixed 4x50 m relay.

Terry Van Meer in the 60-64 group received a gold medal in the 50m Breast stroke, three Silver in 100m free, 100m breaststroke, and the 50m backstroke.

Pickleball

Salmon Arm’s Shirley Knorr won a silver medal along with her Kamloops partner Diane Gillis in the 4.0 division. Myrna Calver and Marg Heron won silver in the 3.0 division.

Golf

Brian Maurer earned a silver medal in the man’s 65-69 class.

Horseshoes

Matt Honkanen won gold in the Men’s 65+ B, Clarence Juell won bronze in the same event.

Faith Juell won gold in the women’s 65+ D, while Marlene Marshall won gold in the E class.

Table tennis

Jarvis Wice won gold in the men’s singles 65-69, Peter Wessel won silver in men’s 70-74, Debbie Harrison won bronze in women’s singles 55-59, Doss Burman won bronze in women’s singles 65-69 and Ralph Owens won gold in the Men’s 80+ singles.

Doug Cole and Dennnis Chow got gold in men’s 65-69 doubles while Jarvis Wice and Peter Wessel got silver and Roger Williams and Wilf Pauls took bronze.

Debbie Harrison and her partner Sharon Green of Kamloops took bronze in the women’s 55-59 doubles.

Norma Bischoff and Doss Burman won gold in the women’s 65-69 doubles.

Jarvis Wice and Sharon Green teamed up to win bronze in the mixed 60-64 category, while Peter Wessel teamed up with Marilyn Bryant of Kelowna to place gold in the mixed 70-74 class.

Eddie Turner and Ralph Owens won gold in the Men’s 80+ doubles, while Doug Cole and Doss Burman earned silver in the mixed 65-69.

Tennis

Mick Ford placed silver in the men’s 70-74 singles.

Track and Field

Susan Martin placed silver in the women’s 55-59 1,500m, and silver in the 800m. Martin was also part of a team that took silver in the women’s 4x100m relay, as well as the gold in the sprint medley. Bev Wice earned a gold in the women’s 65-69 200m, silver medals in the 800m and 400m  and bronze in the 1,500m, 10k road race and the 5,000m. She also won gold for the 4x400m power walk relay.

Equestrian

Sarah Figgess earned gold in 65+ dressage level 1- tests 2 and 3.

Slo-pitch

Dehood Nestor, Dick Zufelt, Dennis May and  Al Probyn joined the Kamloops Rattlers squad and came home with gold in the men’s 70+ division.

Ice Hockey

The Salmon Arm Cavaliers took bronze in the men’s 55+ division. Local team members include Mike Johnson, Len Lega, Bill Hagardt, Jeff Fukumoto, Guss Martin, Randy Bellows, Keith Bostock, Maurice Roy, Hans Berls and Ron Hagardt.

The Bear Mountain Grizzlies won gold in the  men’s 60+ category. Their Salmon Arm players included: Daryl Koskimaki, Gord Mackintosh, Roy Sakaki, Hugh Hooker, Victor Wasilenko, Dave Davidson, Bob Munro and Bert Ducharme.

The Kamloops Old Dogs took bronze in the men’s 65+, which included Salmon Arm players: Bruce Cook, Barry Davies and Dennis LaClaire. The Kamloops Old Dogs took silver in the men’s 70+ with Ron Goodman on the team.

Soccer

Wolfgang Bopp joined the South Central squad and picked up a silver medal.
