Shuswap riders excel

Dressage: Event produces good result for local duos.

The annual SIDA Fall Finale dressage competition provided a great finish to the season for Shuswap riders.

The two-day event at the Salmon Arm Fairgrounds, Sept. 29 and 30, included a variety of dressage tests at a range of levels.

Dressage is the guiding of a horse through a series of complex maneuvers by slight movements of the rider’s hands, legs and weight.

On Saturday, local winners were as follows in the gold competition:

• Jesse Langford on Maraschino took two firsts – one in the First Level Test 1 and one in the First Level ‘Test of Choice.’

• Sonya Campbell on Zamiro took first place in the one test she entered – the highest test in Fourth Level, Test 3.

• Philip Wright on Frostfire took first in the two tests he entered – PE (Para Equestrian) Grade 4 Team and PE Gr. 4 Individual.

In the bronze competition Saturday, local winners were:

• Vicki Davies on Just Jake earned second in the Walk Trot A test and first in the Walk Trot Test of Choice;

• Lindsay Whitehead on Guinness took first in Training Level Test 1 and first in Training Level Test of Choice;

• Cynthia McGowin on Penelope placed fourth in Training Level Test 1, and second in Training Level Test of Choice;

• Ebony Derksen on Show N Tell took third in Training Level Test 2 and third in Training Level Test of Choice.

On Sunday, in the gold competition, winners were:

• Jesse Langford on Maraschino placed first in First Level Test 1 and second in First Level Test of Choice.

In the Sunday bronze event, local results were:

• Vicki Davies on Just Jake was first in Walk Trot Test of Choice;

• Lindsay Whitehead on Guinness placed second in Training Level Test 2 and first in Training Level Test of Choice;

• Ebony Derksen on Show N Tell was third in Training Level Test 2 and second in Training Level Test of Choice;

• Cynthia McGowin on Penelope earned fourth in Training Level Test 2.
