Parkview Elementary has a lot of reasons to be proud of its students, and Quinn Carson has added her accomplishments to that list.

On June 10, the Sicamous student travelled to Kamloops to compete in track and field in the B.C. Interior Elementary School Championships.

Quinn beamed with pride as she showed off the three medals she won, gold in the 300-metre dash, silver in the 600-metre and bronze in 100-metre.

“I feel like the reason I got one bronze in my 100-metre is because there was a lot of super tall girls that looked like they were in Grade 7 or 8,” said Quinn. “So that was really cool to race them – and I beat one of them.”

She explained the older girls took first and second place but she feels proud to have won a medal in each of her races.

Quinn said running track is fun because she enjoys working hard at something she’s good at.

“It gets me active, and it’s really fun winning stuff as well,” she laughed.

Having started running at North Canoe Elementary, her previous school, Quinn continues after transferring to Parkview two years ago.

“I just decided to start,” she said when asked if she had family members who competed in track or are role models in running. “I don’t really know anyone that’s good at running.”

Quinn also plays hockey, soccer and softball, keeping busy in every season. She said she plans to keep running track as long as she can.
