Slideshow: Long blades and fast times at the Shaw Centre

The Ice Jam gave skaters a chance to put their short-track skills to the test.

The Salmon Arm Ice Breakers hosted their fifth-annual Ice Jam short track speed skating meet on Saturday. It was an exciting day at the rink with 24 local skaters racing alongside competitors from Kelowna, Kamloops, West Kootenay, and Vernon.

In Division 1 Aila Norlin raced to three personal best times .

Jack Verdurmen, Jalen Thurgood, and Maddy Feist all performed well in Division 2. Jack Isaac brought home the silver medal and Phoenix Nash won the bronze medal.

In Division 3, Ila Isaac, Lincoln Thurgood, and Devyn Hughes all set personal best times.

Callie Belway sped her way to gold in Division 4 while Corbin Coubrough took silver, and Nathan Bastiaansen won the bronze. Brighton Irwin and Jett Nash also raced hard.

Hudson Kearl and Mackenzie Keating set new personal best times in Division 5.

In Divison 6, Keagan Isaac, Sarah Wright, Helena Phillips all set new personal bests with Peter Ely winning the silver and with Zachary Watkins taking home bronze. .

Masters skater Kim Klapstein won all of his Division 7 races for the gold medal.

In Division 8, Jon Phillips attained the gold medal with Paige Isaac setting two new personal best times.

Next up for the Ice Breakers is the Kelowna Cup on Dec. 9.
