Sockeyes shatter records, take third

The Sockeyes competed in the 2014 Okanagan Regional Championships in Kelowna this past weekend.

Novice and veteran swimmers alike swam personal bests and showed technical improvement as well as setting individual and relay records.

Eric Moore set two individual records in the boys division one 100-metre freestyle and 50-m breaststroke events, while Julianne Moore set four in the girls division, including two 100-m individual medley, 50-m butterfly, 50-m breaststroke and 100-m freestyle.

Matthew Nesdoly broke a division five record in 100-m backstroke, while teammate Brayden Gilliam broke the boys division six 100-m butterfly record.

In division five girls, Tricia Fair broke four records including the 50-m freestyle, 100-m butterfly, 100-m backstroke, and 100-m freestyle. Eliza-Jane Kitchen broke the 200-m IM and 100-m breaststroke in division seven girls. Bree Cooper shattered the 50-m butterfly record in OCAT 2 girls. For relays, division two boys broke the 200-m freestyle and 200-m medley relay records. In addition, the division eight girls broke their 200-m freestyle relay record from 2013.

Overall, the team placed third out of 10 in the region. The Sockeyes are back in the pool preparing for provincial championships taking place in Kamloops, two weeks from now.
