Junior A Challenge

A pair of Salmon Arm Silverbacks are in the running to be selected for the Canada West team that will play in the 2017 World Junior A Challenge. Defenceman Austin Chorney and goaltender Reid Cooper are among 60 invitees to the selection camp which will be held in Calgary on Dec. 2 to 5. The tournament begins on Dec. 10 in Truro, Nova Scotia.

Ice Jam

The Salmon Arm Ice Breakers are hosting their fifth annual Ice Jam short-track speed skating races Saturday, Nov. 25. Racing begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 2:30 p.m. at the Shaw Centre. Everyone is welcome to come and watch the fastest sport on ice and cheer on the local skaters. There will be 63 participants in the races from West Kootenay, Vernon, Kelowna and Kamloops.For more information about the Ice Breakers go to or the Salmon Arm Ice Breakers Facebook page.


Badminton at the Sunnybrae Community Hall Mondays 7 to 9 p.m., and Fridays 1 to 3 p.m. Drop-in games starts Nov. 6 and run until the spring. The drop-in fee is $1, or $15 for the whole winter.

Skills camp

Salmon Arm Elite Power Skating and Hockey host the Speed Demon Winter Skills Camp from Dec. 27 to 29. The camp is open to Atom, PeeWee and Bantam ages. The registration deadline is Dec. 17.

Silverbacks bus
