The Salmon Arm Midget House Two hockey team travelled to Kamloops on the weekend of Jan. 20 for their third tournament of the season. They beat Abbotsford 3-2, lost to Kamloops seven 5-1, won against Kamloops eight 4-3 and finished the tournament with a 6-2 win against Kamloops four.
On Jan. 29 they faced Vernon two, the top ranked team in the league. The score was 3-3 going into the third period, but Vernon pulled away for a 6-3 final.
Weber has fastest shot
At the 2017 NHL All-Star Skills Competition, held on Jan. 28 in Los Angeles, the Montreal Canadiens defenceman had the fastest shot in the Oscar Mayer NHL Hardest Shot event, clocking 102.8 miles-per hour (160 km/hr). Winnipeg Jets’ forward Patrick Laine came in second with a shot clocked at 101.7 mph.
This is the third year in a row for Weber, with his fastest shot clocked at 108.5 mph. Boston Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara holds the record of 108.8 mph.
Weber was traded by the Nashville Predators to the Canadiens in June 2016.
Indoor Soccer
Shuswap Youth Soccer Association hosts an indoor soccer tournament on Feb. 11 and 12. U14 boys and girls play on the 11th and U16 boys and girls play on the 12th. Each team will play three 44-minute games.
Bound for provincials
Lorelai Guidos, a Salmon Arm resident who plays third for Carly Connor’s Junior women’s curling rink, is heading to the provincial championships.
The rink qualified by winning a match in 100 Mile House on Jan. 14. Provincials are held in Nanaimo March 16 to 19.
