Tennis regionals go to tie breaker

Salmon Arm Secondary, Mount Boucherie and Penticton High School, faced off in a match play Tennis Tournament.

Last Thursday, three schools Salmon Arm Secondary, Mount Boucherie and Penticton High School, faced off in a match play  AAA Valley Provincial Qualifying Tennis Tournament.

In the first match of the tournament, SAS matched up against PenHigh.

The doubles team of team of Wallis Thompson and Susannah Wark won both their matches, getting the ball rolling.

The boy’s doubles teams played well but lost several very close sets. In the end Penticton ended up beating SAS nine matches to two.

The following match was against a strong Mount Boucherie team that had beat SAS quite convincingly during the regular season.

Thompson and Wark’s strong play continued as they won both their matches against the Bears.

SAS also benefitted from two wins apiece from the doubles teams of Colin Van Buskirk and Trajan Boyd and Dan Declan and Jackson Wark.

In the end Salmon Arm defeated Mount Boucherie seven matches to four.

Because Mount Boucherie beat PenHigh there was a three-way tie.

As a result the tie breaker was determined by sets won.

PenHigh ended accumulating the most sets so they won the AAA Valley’s and qualified for the provincial finals.
