The Rona Midget Tier 3 Silvertips clashed with the Castlegar Rebels in Sicamous last weekend, and finished up squared at four after a back-and-forth seesaw battle.

After trading chances for the first third of the opening frame, the Rebels opened the scoring at the 13-minute mark.

Salmon Arm picked up the pace and steadily took back momentum. Marino Bordin finally solved the opposition’s netminder with a hard wrist shot from the point on the power play and just over a minute left in the period.

Penalty troubles continued to plague the Silvertips, and they allowed Castlegar to take the lead on a five-on-three part way through the second.

Brayden Costa’s hard work behind the net and a sweet feed out front allowed Ty Bailey to put the ’Tips back to even as time wound down in the second.

Castlegar took the lead again early in the third, but Connor Kociuba beat a defender to the puck behind the Castlegar net and dished out front to Bryant Cumming for the tap-in, knotting it at three-all.

The Rebels took the lead back just a minute and a half later shorthanded, but Salmon Arm refused to go down without a fight.

Bailey got his second of the game just two minutes later, tipping a Scott Rokosh slapshot over the shoulder of the Rebels’ goaltender.

Castlegar applied huge pressure attempting to steal the lead back, but Colby Geiger was equal to the challenge in net for the ‘Tips, and the game ended in a 4-all tie.

The Silvertips meet up with West Kelowna in Enderby next weekend.
