You’re invited to give curling a try

Curling season is about to get underway and local enthusiasts are invited to dust off their gear and get into action

Curling season is about to get underway and local enthusiasts are invited to dust off their gear and get into action.

Skill level, age or work schedule don’t matter – the Chase Curling Club can find a spot that is perfect for everyone.

Each year, the Chase curling club hosts a number of leagues throughout the week which allows for curlers with any schedule a chance to take to the ice.

Teams of more than four players will also be available to allow for those working shift work.

Possible future curling stars have a league to themselves with the junior curlers meeting every Monday from 3:30 to 5 p.m..

The junior program is also affiliated with other clubs in the area, which allows those involved to take part in inter-club competitions throughout the year.

Those wishing to register for the junior league or wanting more information, can contact Diane Overton by emailing admin@chasecurling.ca. A registration fee of $40 will be required, which also covers the required equipment.

Registration begins Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. Information on the sport, its variations and what is provided at the rink will be available at this time.

One form of curling that has proved popular in the Chase area is stick curling.

Stick curling allows those who cannot squat down to throw the rock in the regular manner, and still  take part in the sport.

Those who have never curled before but are interested in the sport can try their hand on opening night.

The season will kick off with the Friday Night Open League and those who would like to see if they have what it takes are invited to attend.

A fee of $40 will cover newcomers for the first four nights, with the fee being put towards the yearly fee for those who wish to continue after that time.

Registration for the first league is $220 plus $14 CurlBC fee and taxes, the second league is $180 plus the cost of the first league, and the third league is $160 plus the cost of the first and second league. The cost of the fourth league is free.

Junior fees are half of the above stated fees.

Friday Night Open League comes to $160 plus $14 CurlBC and taxes.

Monday mixed curling will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday ladies stick curling will start at 10 a.m., Wednesday senior men’s curling will begin at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., Wednesday night ladies curling begins at 7 p.m., Thursday night’s men’s curling begins at 7 p.m., Thursday men’s stick curling starts at 10 a.m., Friday seniors men’s curling is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and Friday night open league will take place at 7 p.m.
