Shuswap 7s host 20 teams for high school rugby tourney

Event took place at Sullivan campus

Cool competition concluded on day 1 with a cold plunge for the Shuswap rugby players and guests.

Last weekend, April 20-21, the Shuswap 7s hosted more than 20 teams from across B.C. and Alberta for a girls and boys high school rugby tournament at the Salmon Arm Secondary Sullivan campus.

At the end of day 1, the teams headed to Canoe Beach for a cold plunge in Shuswap Lake.

The Yeti Rugby Club congratulated local participating athletes, giving special mention to their tournament MVPs:

• Jackson Boys: Landon Birkett;

• Jackson Girls: Keira Jaeger;

• Sullivan Boys: Matt Ursulak;

• Sullivan Girls: Micah Frederickson.

During the weekend, Yeti Rugby members cooked and served the hotdogs and hamburgers. The club offered thanks to Askew’s Foods and manager Dave Wallace for donations of food and use of a pop-up tent and barbecue, and to all the volunteers, referees and coaches, and everyone who came out to support the talented local athletes.
