Anjte Breugen was a double winner in a weekend Salmon Arm tennis tournament.

The Shuswap Youth Soccer end-of-season tournament was held over the weekend at local sports fields in Salmon Arm.

It all comes down to a single game for the Shuswap U18 Mavericks boys soccer team which is set to play Abbotsford in the provincial championships Sunday. After the deciding game, the winning team will have the opportunity to continue on to the national championships in New Brunswick where they will represent B.C.

Vernon is unwilling to climb into the ring, a decision that has resulted in a TKO for a Salmon Arm boxing event. On Monday, a majority of Vernon council denied a bid from Salmon Arm for Vernon’s athletic commission to sanction the Sturgis North Fight Night proposed for July 16.

Hannah Freathy, riding Element 47, clears a jump in the cross-country phase to win the training division at the Summer Horse Trials held Sunday at Topline Stables. Freathy also won the High Point Pony Club Award.

The Salmon Arm Sockeyes broke eight of 10 meet records in Golden on the weekend. The boys team came second behind the host team and the girls team came third. Many aggregates were won, meaning swimmers were top three overall in their age category.

A Salmon Arm SilverBack is moving on up. On Saturday, June 25 at the Xcel Energy Centre in St. Paul Minnesota, Josh Manson was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks. Manson was the 160th pick overall in the sixth round.

Overcast skies and cool temperatures helped five local Shuswap Lady Strider members place well at the recent Fresh Air Experience Women’s race in Kelowna on June 12.
