Residents of a long-term care facility got a sweet Valentine’s treat.
Vernon singer-songwriter Andrew Allen stopped by Heron Grove, on 20th Street, Feb. 13, to play some songs for the assisted and independent living, and long-term care residents.
Heron Grove recreation and volunteer coordinator Chris Smith said Allen has a special connection with a Heron Grove resident that spans many years.
“Amidst his busy schedule, he made time to come in and play for us,” said Smith. “Andrew played some of his classic songs but tried out a few new ones which were all, of course, awesome.”
As an added bonus, Allen played the Paul Simon classic You Can Call Me Al, using his looping pedal to record the song’s iconic bass line.
Allen finished the set with Leonard Cohen’s timeless song Hallelujah, and an impromptu version of Amazing Grace, as requested by an audience member.
“Andrew has such a musical gift and stage presence, but on top of that, he is a caring man who made the time to spread some love this Valentine’s season for some seniors in the community,” said Smith.
Allen was slated to play a Valentine’s show in Kelowna Wednesday. He has a couple of concerts in Saskatchewan in May.
