Now that we are well into our new year and its weird weather, it’s a good time to reflect and recognize what a multi-faceted paradise we live in here in the Shuswap.

There are few cities in Canada with the alluring physical appeal of Salmon Arm.

We have a sublime network of both inter-city and surrounding area trails that interlace us with nature and complement the grandeur of mountains and lake.

We have top-notch concerts, movies and theatre, which all stem from local ownership – think the non-profit, community owned 5-screen Salmar – unique in B.C.

We have world class musicians and athletes, not to mention Duncan Morris, perhaps the best political cartoonist in Canada. And we have delectable, locally owned businesses – nowhere else in B.C. is there a grocery chain comparable to Askew’s in terms of price, range, friendliness and community focus. There are too many superlatives to mention, but let me close with the best gas station in B.C. – the uptown Co-op and its wonderfully positive team of Joe, Krista, Seth, Damian, Linaya, Famous, Julie and Heather. What a crew!
