Changing brains

Learn the truth about human trafficking that targets young aboriginal women in Canada at Enslaved and Exploited – an Evening to Raise Awareness, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at the Salmar Classic Theatre. Featured speaker will be Grace Edge, former victim of human trafficking.

 

 

Variety’s kids

Local fundraising for Variety the Children’s Charity of B.C. begins Saturday, Jan. 7 with a door-to-door bottle drive in Salmon Arm and Gleneden, beginning at 10 a.m. For more information or to arrange pick-up of refundable beverage containers, call Brenda at 250-832-3157.

 

 

Film fare

Shuswap Film Society presents Take Shelter, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Salmar Classic. The audience is caught up in a man’s growing sense of dread and desperation in an unsettling drama about the inner struggles of a man who may, or may not be going insane.

 

 

Book brigade

The Heap the Honda Children’s Book Drive launches Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Salmon Arm SilverBacks game vs. the Penticton Vees.

 

 

SAS drama

Salmon Arm Secondary Drama 11-12 students present Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers, a sequence of loosely-related adventures occurring between 1827–8, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10 to Friday, Jan. 13 in the Sullivan campus theatre. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for kids, at the door only.

 

 

Men’s chorus

The Baha’i Community of Salmon Arm hosts World Religion Day 2012 -  Justice with several speakers: Bart Thomas - traditional aboriginal teachings, Pastor Erik Bjorgan - Christianity, Clara Scheil - Islam, Fareed Lor - Baha’i Faith and Nancy Whitticase - Reading for Buddhism, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15 at SAGA Public Art Gallery.
