There are many ways to leave the planet.

But perhaps one of the less painful would be Death by Chocolate, something that will be served to benefit the Kamloops Symphony Feb. 14.

Not that organizers are expecting anyone to actually succumb to the much-loved substance that modern historians believe has been around for about 2,000 years – or longer.

Death By Chocolate will feature an incredible selection of chocolate for the discerning palate. And those who are not so fond of chocolate will get their just desserts as well, says organizer Cilla Budda.

“There will be delectable desserts for those who like a bit more variety,” she says, noting the evening will also feature beautiful music by talented singers Andrea Roberts and Hannah Gomme.

Roberts majored in classical vocal performance and piano in Capilano College’s bachelor of music program before embarking on a two-year program of private voice lessons in the Mozart Conservatory in Slovakia.

She is a member of the Northern Lights Chamber Choir and Terry Logan’s Ancora, and sings at weddings and at the Jazz Club of Salmon Arm.

In her third year of performance arts voice at UBC, Gomme has collected her fair share of awards. At the age of 16, she was named Best of the Fest Vocal at the Shuswap Music Festival and loved performing in the musical theatre program at Salmon Arm Secondary.

Roberts and Gomme will be accompanied by the talented Jim Johnston.

As well as delightful treats, Death By Chocolate guests will be invited to purchase raffle tickets at $10 for one ticket or three for $20.

The prizes are great and there will be a silent auction and Budda emphasizes the event is for everyone – not just couples. And all the money raised goes to the $1,000 cost to bring the musicians to Salmon Arm.

Death by Chocolate takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the Seniors’ Fifth Avenue Activity Centre.  Tickets at $25 are available at Salmon Arm Stationery and include a cash wine bar.
