Sicamous hosts mushroom festival

The first annual Sicamous and Shuswap Lake Wild Mushroom and Food Festival was held in 2005.

The first annual Sicamous and Shuswap Lake Wild Mushroom and Food Festival was held in 2005. Participants enjoyed identifying and picking wild mushrooms, watching evening presentations, and attending workshops. The 2012 Festival will be offering even more. Activities will guide people to identify and actually pick wild mushrooms, and have a gourmet experience in the Shuswap.

These will all be showcased during the Weekend Fungi Festival, Sept. 21 to 23, at the Red Barn in Sicamous. There will be many different forms of entertainment to keep everyone having fun – everything from presentations, workshops, vendors and exhibitors, informative slide shows and a live stage including beer gardens.

Feature presentations will be by Paul Kruger, a foremost identifier of psychedelic mushrooms, and Daniel Winkler, who will talk about mushrooming in the Amazon, Tibet and the Pacific Northwest.
