In October 2008 the Kamloops Symphony presented the first of what has become a regular series of performances in Salmon Arm.

At that time, the only venue large enough to accommodate the orchestra’s requirements was the SASCU Recreation Centre.

The Nexus at First United opened this fall after months of planning and renovations. The Kamloops Symphony takes to the stage in this new venue when the Salmon Arm Concert Series Sunday, Nov. 13.

This year, the Kamloops Symphony celebrates its 40th anniversary, with a look back at its history, including milestones like the introduction of the Salmon Arm Concert Series. At the same time, the orchestra look forward to a new era under the artistic leadership of a new music director, who will be chosen from four guest conductor candidates appearing with the orchestra over the course of the concert season. Two of the candidates will be conducting in Salmon Arm. Audiences will be invited to participate in the selection process by completing an online survey following each guest conductor’s appearance.

Season tickets for the Salmon Arm Concert Series can be purchased through Kamloops Live! Box Office at a 10 per cent savings until Saturday, Nov. 12.

Single tickets will be available from Wearabouts in Salmon Arm before each concert or you can get your tickets at the door. Young adults between 19 to 34 can join the free TD Soundcheck program to take advantage of $15 tickets. More information is available at www.kamloopssymphony.com.

Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.

Guest conductor Melanie Leonard with piano soloist Maxim Bernard

The program includes Franz Schumann’s only piano concerto, a gem of the Romantic repertoire, performed by Montreal pianist Maxim Bernard. Haydn’s Symphony #101 and music by Canadian composer Murray Adaskin to complete the program.
