Tea supports cancer cause

Sipping tea and socializing is a good way to relax and unwind.

Sipping tea and socializing is a good way to relax and unwind.

Which is why a tea party is perfect to discuss breast cancer awareness.

Salmon Arm is getting its first tea party, hosted by the Friends Abreast dragon boat team.

“It’s a great way to get together and pull out those old tea cups from our mothers, or our weddings. The tea party is an alternative means to show support for the cause,” organizer Liz Burdeniuk said.

She is part of six organizers, many of whom have had breast cancer.

Burdeniuk hopes to have between 40 and 50 people and to raise at least $200.

The tea party is held Oct. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 1950 13th St. SE.

As seating is limited, registration is required.

Draws will also be held throughout the event with awareness items given out.

The event is free, and proceeds by donation will go to the Canada Breast Cancer Foundation.

Pink Ribbon Tea is an annual Canada Breast Cancer Foundation event.

“In 2015, breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer diagnosis in Canadian women – with 1 in 4 (26.1 per cent) cancer diagnoses being breast cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Canadian women, after lung cancer,” according to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
