Film fest

The Shuswap Film Society presents an ’80s Film Festival Feb. 17 to 19 at the Salmar Classic with 12 classic films over three days, costume awards and door prizes.

Films include The Empire Strikes Back, Beverly Hills Cop, Three Amigos, Gun, Footloose, Flashdance and more.

Five- or 12-film passes are available at the UPS Store and single tickets at $8 for adults and $4 for children can be purchased at the door. All proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

 

Akonjo

On Saturday, Feb. 18, an evening of music and dance will be held at SAGA Public Art Gallery in support of a Canadian/Kenyan cultural exchange.

Bid on silent auction items and enjoy delicious desserts at 7 p.m., entertainment including One Camel Short starts at 7:30 p.m. Adults $12, students $7, families $30.

Funds will go to the projects of the Akonjo Youth Empowerment and Health Education Program in Akonjo Village, Kenya.

 

Two for music

Kate Morgan and James Struthers perform at Java Jive on the Trans-Canada at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18.

 

Shrove supper

First United Church hosts a pancake supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21. Cost is $5 at the door.

 

Heritage week

Visit the Mall at Piccadilly Feb. 21 to 25 and help celebrate the 16th Annual Heritage Week. This year’s theme is “Energy in B.C. – A Powerful Past, A Sustainable Future.”

Old-fashioned fun runs Saturday, Feb. 25, starting with a pancake breakfast as well as gold panning, face-painting and a children’s craft. The ‘Old Fashioned Pie’ baking contest is back. For more information on the event contact the mall administration office at 832-0441.

 

Gallery jazz

On Thursday, Feb. 23, SAGA Gallery Jazz presents the Gypsy Jazz of Gadjology, with Jacob Verberg, Willy Gaw, Dick Owings and Bill Lockie at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.

 

Stage play

Tickets are available for Shuswap Theatre’s upcoming Mainstage production, Leading Ladies, a hilarious modern farce, Feb. 24 to March 3.

Tickets are available at Wearabouts or students can purchase $5 ShuGo tickets at SAGA Public Art Gallery Tuesday through Saturday.
